Antelope Valley Fair
The Antelope Valley Fair will observe Military Appreciation Day on Aug.23.
Admission will be free for veterans, active duty service members and military retirees. With a lanyard, attendees will receive a warm welcome from military support groups like Bombshell Betty ‘s Pin-Up Calendar, and Fregoso Outdoor Foundation.
AVTA
Starting Aug.20, AV Transit Authority introduces bus service to the West LA VA Medical Center. Cost is $10.50 for a round trip, but eligible veterans can be reimbursed for travel under VA rules.
Homeless vets
Mental Health America veteran advocate Ken Felton says that veterans at risk for homelessness can come to MHA Military Resource Center on 17th Street West in Palmdale where staff is ready to help.
VFW Post 3000
William “Bill” Spargur advises that VFW Post 3000 has a couple of serviceable wheelchairs, one a “big boy” for veteran in need. For more information, contact Spargur at 661-605-4599.
Navy veteran Steve Baker, Grace Resources advises the group has availability of a Taurus modified to be driven by driver who only has use of arms. For more information, contact Baker at 661-810-1652.
Veterans can get good information every week at Crazy Otto’s Coffee4vets on Avenue I, Tuesday’s 7-9 a.m. There is free coffee and meal discounts for veterans.
