Joan Johnson, head of the NAWCWD Systems Engineering Department, was the guest speaker at a National Contract Management Association meeting held in Ridgecrest May 22. Johnson talked about her recent two-day visit aboard USS Enterprise during its final deployment. Johnson said she took advantage of the opportunity to connect with the fleet, and learn more about naval aviation, carrier operations and the role of the carrier supporting the warfare commanders. She noted the high caliber of young men and women serving in uniform, and said everyone she talked with was passionate, took great pride in their individual contributions to the overall mission, and worked together as a team in a dangerous environment. “Everyone on the ship is a hero,” said Johnson, who encouraged all in attendance to thank a service member at every opportunity. NCMA is a professional resource for those in the field of contract management. It is dedicated to the professional growth and educational advancement of procurement and acquisition personnel worldwide. There were about 30 people from the Ridgecrest chapter of NCMA in attendance for the monthly meeting.
