Heather Knox, daughter of Maj. Kenneth Knox, 79th Rescue Squadron assistant director of operations, is will perform the National Anthem in front of approximately 250,000 people at this year’s D-M ‘Thunder and Lightning over Arizona’ open house.

While other 15-year-olds are getting their learners permit, Heather Knox, daughter of Maj. Kenneth Knox, 79th Rescue Squadron assistant director of operations, is scheduled to perform the National Anthem in front of approximately 250,000 people at this year’s D-M ‘Thunder and Lightning over Arizona’ open house.

“Since I am young and this is such a prestigious event, I am honored to have been chosen,” Heather said.

Heather is a sophomore at Catalina Foothills High School. She has been singing for the last eight years. She is currently the American coed Pageant, Miss Junior Teen Arizona. Heather will be representing military kids at the Miss America Coed Pageant in November. As the youngest competitor, she recently took third place in the D-M’s Got Talent Competition.

“This is a way to honor the people that fight for our freedom,” Heather said. “It’s more important on a military base because it’s a chance for me to thank them with my God-given talent. I can show them I am thankful for all they do. It’s a chance for me to give back.”

A panel of Open House committee members chose Heather to be this year’s singer at an audition held here March 22.

“I am extremely proud of all that Heather has done to prepare herself for a career in music and singing,” Major Knox said. “The committee has given her an incredible opportunity to showcase her talents in front of 250,000 people from across the country. I am really excited for her as she takes the next step in her endeavors.”
