More than 130,000 people converged on Davis-Monthan AFB April 14 and 15 to watch a spectacular display of aeronautic stunts and tour one-of-kind static displays.
Although the weather was overcast and unseasonably chilly, locals came out in droves to the biannual Open House. “As always, the D-M personnel put on an amazing event,†said Reed Walker, a local retiree. “I’ve been attending the air show at Davis-Monthan for many years and I’m always impressed with the line-up. I just wish they were able to do this every year instead of every other year.â€
Headlining the open house was the always impressive USAF Thunderbirds. “I know its cliché, but the Thunderbirds are always my favorite,†said Walker.
Most of the festivities went off without a hitch. The only major disruption was a sonic boom that occurred during a practice session April 13, a day before the Open House officially opened. The base Legal Office is taking care of the claims procedures for damages associated with the sonic boom.
