D-M’s got an app for that

Airman 1st Class Timothy D. Moore

Davis-Monthan has recently joined the My Military Communities list of accessible bases.

My Military Communities is a free downloadable application developed for smart phones by the 375th Communications Support Squadron, Software Engineering Flight at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. The application was designed to be an all-encompassing directory for Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines to find events and services available on and around their bases.

The app takes the events created by military base associated organizations’ Facebook pages and compiles them in one location for easy access. Furthermore, it is capable of narrowing those events into smaller groups depending on the host organization’s category, the target audience, or the target audience’s interests or needs.

Any group, military or civilian, is capable of being associated with My Military Communities by coordinating with the 355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs office. The group only needs to give PA the link to its Facebook page. The page as well as its events and gatherings can then be displayed on the application potentially increasing both awareness and participation of the group’s activities.

Once connected to the application, a group’s description and contact information is pulled directly from its Facebook page and displayed in the listing section on the directory of the application.

Training on getting the most out of the application through an organization’s Facebook page is available through the PA office.
