Fuel’s main responsibility is to keep aircraft filled, ready for the mission

U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Justin Spycher, 355th Logistics Readiness Squadron, refuels an A-10C on Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in June.

Sergeant Twiss examines gasoline filter paper samples at the fuels lab here. Gas is filtered to check for dirt of any that may be in it; the cleaner fuels are needed to keep the fuselage clean for better performance.

U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Select Clark Twiss, 355th Logistics Readiness Squadron, takes a sample of gasoline from an R-11 fuel truck on here in June. After pulling the sample, Twiss takes it to conduct tests to determine the usability of the fuel.

U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Samuel Cox, 355th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, and Airman 1st Class Kaitlin Carroll, 355th Logistics Readiness Squadron, retract the refueling hose back into the R-11 fuel truck. Davis-Monthan’s fuels shop has 12 trucks; 11 for refueling aircraft and one for the defueling of aircraft.
