Deployments can be hard on a service member, their friends and their family.
PLAYpass is a membership card that Airmen and their families can use to receive discounts at select base organizations. The card is intended for use by families of deployed Airmen, and the Airmen themselves once they return.
“This is an opportunity to provide families and single Airmen with morale outlets during deployments and reintegration,” said Heidi Meisterling, 355th Force Support Squadron director of the Airman and Family Readiness Center. “Not everyone has the means to participate in these programs and PLAYpass gives them a chance to have some healthy fun.”
To receive a PLAYpass, military members must take their deployment orders to the AFRC. There members can sign up and receive their cards.
Family members can use the card throughout the member’s deployment. Upon their return, members have a 90-day period to enjoy the benefits of their PLAYpass.
“With PLAYpass there’s something for everyone,” Meisterling said. “Single Airmen can get a free round of golf or bowling, and families can take their kids to the craft center.”
PLAYpass is open to service members of any branch, be they active-duty, guard or reserve, attached to an Air Force base.
“Participating in these PLAYpass programs can help families stay connected while their spouses are gone,” said Frances Pientack, 355th FSS marketing director. “They’ll meet other people who are going through the same separation they are and can understand and become a support system.”
The PLAYpass program is scheduled to run until December 31, 2012.
