D-M control tower named best in the Air Force

Earlier this year, it was announced that D-M’s Air Traffic Control Tower had won the D. Ray Hardin Air Traffic Control Facility of the Year award.

Davis-Monthan has won the award at the Air Combat Command level for the past two years. This is the first time that D-M has won at the Air Force level.

“We submitted an Air Force form 1206 with all our accomplishments and things that we have done throughout the year,” said 1st Lt. Rolland Holland, 355th Operations Support Squadron airfield operations flight commander. “It went up to higher headquarters where it was decided who the winner was.”

Lieutenant Holland ultimately believes D-M’s control tower won because of the complexity of the base.

“We have ten flying units here, customs and border patrol, the snowbird ramp, our A-10s, C-130s, the alert detachment and our proximity with Tucson International Airport,” Holland said. “Having all this is something you don’t really see at other bases. I think that’s what sets us apart.”
