Get fit, boot-camp style

Every Thursday morning at 6 a.m. the Benko Fitness Center holds a boot camp class for all individuals on base.

The cost of the class is three dollars for a one hour session.

Retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant from the 55th Rescue Squadron, Jason House, group fitness instructor, has been teaching the class since the beginning of August.

“Since the class has been up and running I’ve had, on average, about three to four people a class,” House said. “I’m hoping to get as many as possible. The class can hold up to 50 people easily. The way it’s set up, there are 10 stations and you can put up to four people at each station.”

The class consists of a full body workout.

“Boot camp is built off circuits,” House said. “Some are resistance based, some are a little bit of cardio. You do each of the 10 station for two minutes. Usually, there are two different exercises at a station because it’s hard to do the same thing for two minutes. After everyone has rotated through each station we come into the middle of the court and do something together. It kind of builds camaraderie. Then we’ll split off and do all 10 circuits again for one minute. After another three to four minute group session, the hour’s almost up.”

Most of the time, House asks for input from his students as to what they want to work on during their upcoming workout sessions.

“I ask the class because a lot of people have specific areas they want to focus on, especially females,” House said. “Once I ask I hear ‘I want to work on hips, I want to work on triceps, I want to work on my mid-section!’ I’ll do the workout according to what the class usually wants and about two weeks later we’ll do it. It’s more motivation to do the class when it’s tailored to you.”
