Weatherman Jimmy Stewart brings his bus to D-M

Jimmy Stewart, retired KVOA-TV weatherman visited D-M with his Weather Bus Nov. 7.

From October through April, three days a week and three weeks a month, Jimmy Stewart’s Weather Bus will visit a different school each day.

The bus had two stops on D-M. The first was at Borman Elementary School where weather science was taught to school children during three morning classes: 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

After Borman Elementary, Stewart traveled to the 612th Support Squadron to meet Airmen from the operational weather flight. Stewart is the honorary squadron commander for the 612th SPTS.

“The 612th SPTS OWF is excited to have our honorary squadron commander, Mr. Jimmy Stewart, come to the flight to showcase and educate our personnel with his Weather Bus,” said Capt. Brian Yates, 612th SPTS director of operations.

Jimmy Stewart is a 31-year veteran of television weather in Tucson, including 10 years at KOLD-TV and the last 21 years at KVOA-TV. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Arizona. He also holds the Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society.
