Managing Stress and Avoiding the Holiday Blues

Dec. 7, 1-2:30 p.m. – Airman & Family Readiness Center

This time of year can be extremely stressful for many of us. Join us for a free 30-minute yoga session featuring chair yoga and pranayama breathing exercises. Discussion topics will include recognizing stress, defining your holiday expectations, coping with disappointment, avoiding the holiday blues, and strategies for managing holiday stress and maintaining balance. EFMP Youth Bowling Event

Dec. 15, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. – D-M Lanes Bowling Center

Youth Programs is partnering with EFMP to offer a free special event. This is open to military-affiliated youth with special needs, ages 5-18. Family members (siblings and parents) can also participate. Space is limited. Call 228-5690 to sign up.

International Spouses Group

EFMP Annual Holiday Party
Dec. 18, 5-7 p.m. – Desert Dove Chapel

This is our most popular event of the year! Bring a potluck dish to share, and get ready for food, fun and friendship. We will have bingo and door prizes. We may even have a special guest from the North Pole! Parents are asked to bring a small gift for their children, labeled and wrapped. All families with special needs are welcome, along with neighbors, co-workers, respite providers and others you’d like to invite. Please sign up by Dec. 14. For more information, call 228-5690.

Marketing Yourself for a Second Career

Dec. 11, 8:30-11 a.m. – Mirage Club

The Airman & Family Readiness Center is hosting a seminar entitled “Marketing Yourself for a Second Career,” on Dec. 11, from 8:30-11 a.m. in the Mirage Club. Col Dan Koslov, USAF (Ret) of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), will be presenting this seminar for interested Officers, Senior NCOs and spouses.

“Marketing Yourself for a Second Career” covers subjects such as:

  • * Perceptions civilian employers have of military personnel.
  • * Resumes, cover letters, broadcast letters, etc.
  • * How employers read your resume.
  • * Networking the hidden job market.
  • * Preparing for and conducting a successful interview.
  • * Salary negotiations and benefit packages.

On-base book drive

A children’s book drive is taking place for the month of December. The books will be donated to the Make Way For Books organization of southern Arizona who then distributes the books throughout southern Arizona for children who have limited access to books. Drop box locations can be found at the BX, base library and the 25th OWS. Contact Staff Sgt. John Jenkins with any questions at 706-349-4015.

NARFE Association Chapter 55 to meet

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Association, Chapter 55, will hold their monthly luncheon meeting on January 14, 2013, at the U-Like Buffet, 330 South Wilmot Road, Tucson, AZ 85711. The luncheon starts at 11 a.m. and ends about 1:30 p.m. There will be a speaker, David Clark, Wells Fargo Advisors, followed by a business meeting. Current and retired Federal employees, their spouses, guests and visitors are welcome. Attendees pay for their lunch. For further information please call 751-2017.
