VITA office opens its doors

Senior Airman Michael Washburn
355th Fighter Wing Public Affairs

The end of January marks the beginning of tax season and the opening of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance tax center on D-M.

“The VITA office is free and open to anyone with an ID card,” said Capt. Jenny Liabenow, 355th Fighter Wing Legal Office. “This includes active duty, dependents and retired individuals.”

Although the doors may be open for the VITA office, appointments need to be made. Appointments for active duty and dependents can be made now for tax preparation which starts on Feb. 1. The VITA starts taking appointments for retirees beginning Feb. 13 and VITA can start preparing taxes for retirees on Feb. 25.

A service like the VITA office is just one way the Air Force helps improve quality of life for military members and their families.

“Davis-Monthan does have a large active duty and retiree population and it’s a way to give our folks peace of mind,” Liabenow said. “It’s convenient, on base and free.”

Those who plan on getting their taxes prepared by the VITA office should bring the following items with them:

  • A military ID card
  • Social Security card for themselves, spouse and all dependents
  • All tax statement forms
  • All appropriate expense information
  • For a faster refund by direct deposit, please bring proof of bank routing and account numbers

The VITA office is located on the corner of Craycroft and Ironwood, and in the rear of building 3210. Call 228-3489 to schedule an appointment.
