When Emma Adam began working for the Army & Air Force Exchange Service, Jimmy Carter was the President and a gallon of gas cost $.89.
Adam, a Shift Manager at the Express/Class VI for the Davis-Monthan Exchange, started her career in 1979 and has spent the last 34 years serving generations of Soldiers/Airmen.
“Serving those who protect our freedom is extremely rewarding,” said Adam. “It hasn’t felt like a job to me – it’s more of an honor and a privilege to have been able do this for so long.”
Adam began her Exchange career as a sales associate. Over the next 34 years, she also had stints as Burger King, Exchange Accounting office and Cashier Supervisor.
While the jobs may have changed over the years, Adam’s dedication and devotion to the troops has never wavered.
“Thinking back on the past 34 years reminds me of what an honor it has been to serve those that serve,” said Adam. “Energy prices may go up and politician’s change, but waking up and going to work alongside the best customers in the world 2013 is just as exciting as it was my first day on the job.”
