Keep fitness resolution with “Commit to be Fit”

February marked the start of the Commit to be Fit incentive program here at the Benko Fitness Center.

The cardio centered program is based on points and the goal is to get the required number of points for the months of February, March and April. The individual gets these points by performing exercises like swimming, running, walking, biking or using the elliptical machine. The longer the distance, the more points someone would earn. As an example, for every mile ran, the person would receive five points.

The target number of points is 100 for February, 175 for March and 250 for April. Every time someone meets the goal for the month, they receive a prize. Every month, the points reset back to zero.

“If someone doesn’t meet the required number of points for any particular month, they wouldn’t get the prize,” said Cesar Vinueza, 355th Force Support Squadron fitness center manager. “They can still try for the next month though.”

Programs like these can be very helpful for those who exercise as they provide accountability.

“This program gives people a way of keeping track of their progress,” Vinueza said. “They see the amount of miles they’ve biked or the weight they lost. It helps people stay motivated.”

The Commit to be Fit program runs from February until the end of April. For more information, call the Benko Fitness Center at 228-0022.
