Col. Maxwell: Goodbye to wing but not Arizona

Staff Sgt. Heather Davis
162nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs

Col. Edward Maxwell has spent much of his career serving the state of Arizona as well as his country. Although his service with the 162nd Fighter Wing has come to an end, his service to the state continues on.

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer selected Maxwell to be the Assistant Adjutant General, Air Commander of the Arizona National Guard, May 29, 2013. Maxwell will continue serving the state of Arizona by providing oversight for the air missions here.

“I’m honored by the opportunity to continue serving the Airmen of Arizona by advocating for all three of the Arizona flying missions,” said Maxwell.

May 31 signaled the end of Maxwell’s time with the 162nd as he embarked on his fini-flight, the final F-16 flight of his career.

“It was a great experience to go out one more time and fly the jet, even though I knew I’d never get the opportunity to do it again,” said Maxwell.

Maxwell will say his goodbyes taking with him 14 years of wonderful memories.

“I have a lot of great memories of the wing,” said Maxwell. “But most of all I will remember the people, the opportunities and the friendships I’ve built over the last 14 years,” he said.
