On Base Auto Body here held a “Kidz Kar Show” event July 17 at the School Age Program across from the Youth Center.

The annual event gives members of the auto body shop a chance to connect with customers on a different level by interacting with their children.

The auto body shop’s first event was held August 2011 at Bama Park with activities for both adults and kids.

“We had such a great turnout we decided that we would probably want to do this once a year for the kids,” said Sandra Pogue, On Base Auto Body human resources director.

This year’s event was held at the School Age Program for kids of various ages. The SAP offers several programs such as the Before and After Care, Summer Camp, Give Parents a Break, School Break Care, and Drop-in Care.

“We feel that it’s really important that the kids know they’re important,” Pogue said. “We are giving each of them a certificate that says they were a paint technician for On Base Auto Body.”

Approximately 40 kids participated in the activity. They were given foam cars to paint and display in the classroom.

“We feel like these types of events really bring it all together and just really solidify our part in the community,” Pogue said. “It’s nice to see the kids proud of something they did.”
