Vickie Jo Ryder, 355th Fighter Wing sexual assault response coordinator, picks up food at the Mirage Club at Davis-Monthan, July 24. The Mirage Club hosted a “drive-thru” where patrons could order food, pick up and pay without having to leave their vehicles.

Mirage Club is used for a myriad of things, from retirement ceremonies, to inprocessing briefings to squadron Christmas parties. It is a resource greatly utilized by the base. Jerry Edwards, Mirage Club manager, hopes to take it a step farther.

“We want the club to be a place people look forward to going after work ,” Edwards said. “We will do that by providing programs, events and quality food for the military members, Department of Defense employees and their families.”

Edwards has already started to implement new programs at the club. They recently held a “drive-thru” barbecue where customers could drive to the club, place their orders and receive their food, all without leaving their cars.

They also hosted an ice-cream social, which Edwards says was such a success they have plans to do it again.

“This time, we plan to pair the social with a family bingo night,” Edwards said. “We’ll have novelty bingo daubers for the kids, and the winner will receive a gift basket of school supplies.”

In addition to family-centric events, Edwards has planned entertainment for single Airmen and couples.

“One of our upcoming events is going to be a tap takeover at the Poly Bar in the Mirage Club,” Edwards said. “One of our vendors, a well-known beer brand, will bring in six of their best craft beers and we’ll hold a tasting.”

The club will also begin offering dinner meals the second Tuesday of each month. Entrees are slated to include prime rib, pasta and Mongolian barbecue. Evening meals will begin in August.

“I’ve tried to put together programs that give the base population something fun and lively to do, all while increasing foot traffic in the club,” Edwards said. “Also, I want to let people know what the Mirage Club has to offer.”
