99-year old female vet receives VA benefits

Dr. Perez-Padilla, Chief of the Primary Care Line at SAVAHCS, and Sophie B. Yazzie

On August 17, the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System hosted a Health Fair focused on female military members and veterans, and according to Pepe Mendoza, PA official for SAVAHCS, the most extraordinary thing happened. Sophie B. Yazzie, 99-years old and a World War II Veteran, was enrolled in VA Healthcare and received other earned benefits she was unaware she was entitled to. She was brought to the fair by her daughter and son-in-law after seeing an advertisement regarding the event. Mrs. Yazzie served during WWII in the Army Air Corps. The health fair attracted more than 200 people who were looking for more information about their VA benefits. SAVAHCS sponsors several information fairs throughout the year.
