Summary Courts Officer notice for Senior Airman Kier C. Kablitz

Senior Airman Kier C. Kablitz of the 2nd Combat Weather Systems Squadron, Hurlburt Field, Fla. passed away Aug. 9, 2013 at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz. Anyone having knowledge of claim for or against the deceased’s estate may contact the Summary Courts Officer, Maj James Krischke, at 520-228-5166, 520-861-4458, or by email at james.krischke@dm.af.mil.

New “Accessing Higher Education” Class

Accessing Higher Education is the newest Transition Assistance Program (TAP) track now available. This two-day class meets one of the Career Readiness Standards required for transitioning service members who plan to pursue higher education.  The first class is scheduled for Sept. 23-24 and will be offered monthly thereafter.  The purpose of the TAP education track is to assist service members as they prepare for college life.  The class will be open to spouses and retirees on a space available basis. To register for an upcoming class, call 228-5690.  The two-day class covers the following information:

-Day 1: Personal & Career Goals – Transferring Credits (military or civilian), Selecting an Educational Institution Degree, Costs, Location and Size Military Friendly Schools, Accreditation, Vet Support.

-Day 2: Funding Factors – FAFSA, GI Bill, Scholarships, Grants, Student Loans In/Out of State Tuition Private Schools Completion of Admissions Package.

Youth Flag Football Coaches Needed

D-M Youth Programs is looking for energetic people to coach and teach youth the basic fundamentals of flag football.  The season runs Oct. 1-Nov. 20.  If you’re interested, call or e-mail Kathy Sands at 228-8844 or kathy.sands@dm.af.mil.

College Book Tuition Scholarships

The Tucson Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association has implemented the AFCEA Tucson Book Scholarship. One $150 scholarship will be awarded each month from September 2013 through May 2014.  The minimum qualification criteria are to be an AFCEA Tucson member enrolled in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math college degree program.  Membership is based upon rank and can be as low as $15 a year!  Deadlines for application are the last Friday of each preceding month. Uniforms offered at Thrift Store

If you are looking for uniforms, come shop the DM Thrift Shop on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. – noon, and the first Saturday of the month.  Bldg 1226, 5085 Flora Street.  Call 228-2120 if you have any questions.

Society of Military Widows to meet

The Society of Military Widows will have their luncheon at the Tucson Country Club at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25. This will be a joint luncheon with M.O.A.A. (Military Officers Association of America) and will be attended by political candidates. For your reservations please, call Kay Spargur 574-6628 before Sept.15.

Retired Officers’ Spouses Club

The Tucson Retired Officers’ Spouses Club will hold its next luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 3 at Hacienda del Lago Restaurant, at Del Lago Golf Club, 14155 E. Via Rancho del Lago in Vail.  Social hour begins at 11 a.m., with an Italian buffet lunch served at noon.  The price of the luncheon is $20.  Reservations are due by noon Monday, Sept. 30 by calling Donita Sherman 203-7234, Onofre Schnack 647-3354 or Dibbie Barden 749-8890.  Please call hostesses for driving directions.

NARFE Chapter 55 to meet

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Association, Chapter 55, will hold their Annual Picnic meeting on Columbus Day, Monday, October 14, at the NW corner of Reid Park, Ramada #22.  The picnic starts at 11 a.m. Call Jane or Vern Pall 760-1952 to let them know what you want to bring–salad, veggie or dessert.  If no answer, leave a message regarding how many will attend and what you are bringing.  The Chapter furnishes the Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Buns, condiments, beverages, plates, cups, utensils, and napkins. Current and retired Federal employees, their spouses, guests and visitors are welcome.

Money on the Road Program

Money on the Road is an Airman & Family Readiness program designed to bring financial readiness/counseling TO YOUR unit! Our counselors can teach classes and be available for one-on-one counseling or to answer general questions.  We tailor our visit to your unit specific needs. You provide a temporary location for us and we provide efficient financial counseling services. If your unit is interested in our Money on the Road program, please call us at 228-5690.

PLAYpass available at the Airman & Family Readiness Center 

The PLAYpass Program provides deployed/remote Single Airmen and Air Force families respite from the challenges of deployment. Single Airmen returning from deployment and families of deployed members can receive special discounts and rewards to help make their deployment easier. PLAYpass offers discount cards that provide members and eligible family members the opportunity to participate in Force Support Squadron programs (e.g. Arts and Crafts Programs, Outdoor Recreation, Youth Programs, Bowling, Golf) for free or at a reduced cost. Each card is valued in excess of $500. PLAYpass cards may be picked up at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg 2441, from 7:30 a.m.- 4:30.p.m., Mon-Thurs.
