Airmen invited to participate in ‘Days of Caring’

Desert Lightning Team members have the opportunity to take part in Tucson’s 14th Annual Days of Caring Oct. 23 and Oct. 26.

Annual Days of Caring is Tucson’s single largest volunteer event where thousands of people from local businesses, community groups and schools lend a hand to make a difference in the community.

“United Way Days of Caring is a celebration of community volunteers giving two days of service to help local agencies” said Air Force Senior Airman Ayla McKenna, Air Force Sergeants Association Veterans Affairs representative. “Volunteers provide helping hands to schools, childcare centers, and non-profit agencies that need assistance.”

There are several base representatives playing the role of event coordinator and signing up members in their unit to volunteer for a specific project.

“It is important [to volunteer] because it gives us an opportunity to give back to the community and to show that we are part of the community and that we care about it,” said Master Sgt. Russell German, 43rd ECS mobility flight chief. “Knowing that you made a difference and improved the community is a reward in itself.”

If you are interested in volunteering or becoming a unit rep, contact Senior Master Sgt. Robin Petelo at 228-8210 or Master Sgt. German at 228-1993.
