Attention all Airmen: Sexual assault convictions are now published on-line

As members of the Desert Lightning Team it is important that you are aware of the “back to basics” approach the Air Force has taken with regards to strategic communications and the on-going battle to combat sexual assault.  Beginning immediately, sexual assault convictions, and the perpetrators of these crimes will be published on-line.  You will quickly realize that all the cases listed involve one or more of the following common themes:   1) the use of alcohol,  2) the absence of personal respect for the victim and/or  3) the absence of the victims’ consent.

Many of these cases involve Airmen assaulting fellow Airmen.  Additionally, many victims were co-workers and former friends – people who trusted their assailant until the fateful event.  The offenders elected to violate that trust and were punished accordingly.  As required by many state laws, convicted Airmen must also register in their jurisdiction’s sexual assault registry.  These sex offender lists include the names and addresses of convicted sex offenders, and are publicly available on-line.

I encourage all Airmen to visit the below website and review the facts of the more than 100 sexual assault convictions cases which resulted in these Airmen being convicted of sexual offenses and held accountable by military judges and court-martial panels with punishments that often include jail time, rank reductions and punitive discharges.  Then educate and warn fellow Airmen about the consequences of committing these crimes.  When you see a situation that isn’t right…ACT!   Intervene and insist that your fellow Airmen treat others with respect.  You represent the best of what makes America great.  Do not let the very few among you who perpetrate these acts tarnish our hard fought reputation as the finest Air Force that ever existed.

Please go visit the website: http://www.afjag.af.mil/sexualassaultprosecution/index.asp and see for yourself.

Sincerely,

Col. Blanchard
