Get your taxes done for free

The Davis-Monthan Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Office offers free tax preparation for airmen, soldiers, Marines, guardsman, dependents and retirees by trained tax preparers who are well versed in military specific tax issues.

The VITA tax center submits tax returns electronically, so you can receive your refunds in as little as one week!

The Tax Center began reservations for tax prep on  Jan 21, for Active Duty personnel and begin preparing returns for Active Duty and their eligible dependents on Jan. 27.  Retirees can begin scheduling appointments Feb. 10.

VITA will also be available on the following Saturdays: February 1, February 8, February 15, March 1, and April 5.

The VITA Tax Center is located in the rear of Bldg 3210 on the NW corner of Craycroft and Ironwood, make an appointment by calling 228-3489.

Taxpayers should bring:

A military ID card; Social Security cards for themselves, spouse, and all dependents;  All tax statements such as Form W-2, 1099-R, and Social Security  Form SSA-1099.

In addition, all appropriate expense information such as medical, home mortgage interest, real estate taxes, charitable contributions, child care expenses, and student loan and un-reimbursed education expenses.

Include any information on rental property and investment income/sales; applicable powers of attorney, and a copy of their 2011 federal and state (if applicable) tax returns.  For a faster refund by direct deposit, please bring a checkbook or proof of bank routing and account number.
