D-M hosted a Women’s History Month panel enabling Airmen to come together and listen to women’s stories of overcoming obstacles in their lives and workplace, March 12.

Women’s History Month is an annual declared month worldwide that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. It is celebrated during March in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, corresponding with International Women’s Day on March 8.

“This year’s theme was celebrating women of character, courage and commitment,” said Marie Lankford, Women’s History Month event coordinator.

The panel consisted of five women who varied in age as well as occupation. The women discussed their shortcomings, ability to overcome obstacles and what it meant to be a working woman in their day.

Approximately 30 Airmen came out to support the event.

“This Women’s History Month panel testimonials was fulfilling, it helped me see that I can overcome my own struggles in my own way just like they did,” said Airman 1st Class Henecciameenah King, 355th Fighter Wing knowledge operations manager. “I really appreciate the individuality in each speaker as well, you could tell that it was genuine.”
