Capt. Joe Dowell 355th Force Support Squadron operations officer, chooses the best Alice costume during the “Meet Force Support Squadron Unbirthday Celebration” at Davis-Monthan, June 26. Desert Lightning Team members were encouraged to come to the event dressed as an Alice in Wonderland Character in an effort to get the kids more involved and to win a prize.

The 355th Force Support Squadron hosted a “Meet FSS Unbirthday Celebration.”

This event gave Desert Lightning Team members a chance to learn about the facilities on base that belong to FSS.

“The purpose of events like the Unbirthday Party is really two-fold,” said said CMSgt. Patrick Fry, 355th FSS superintendent. “We want to do something unexpected for the community…something to just help everyone relax and enjoy. Let’s celebrate the 364 Unbirthdays instead of the one birthday every year. We also want to educate the community on the full range of services FSS provides.”

Frances Pientack, 355th FSS marketing director and coordinator for this event helped bring the Alice in Wonderland theme of an Unbirthday Celebration come to life.

“There’s no schedule, no rhyme or reason, it’s just a fancy tea party,” Pientack said. “This is totally free, we want the customer to come in and meet us.”

As customers walked into the colorful event they were greeted by Airmen dresses up as Alice in Wonderland characters.

“Alice will give tickets for door prizes to win cash,” Pientack said.

While the DLT members met the characters, walked through the tables and played the games they were also learning about what programs the FSS had to offer. They also received a raffle ticket for a chance to win prizes specific to each facility.

“The Meet FSS event was a resounding success,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Emilo Ruizsoriano, 355th FSS commander. “Not only did we provide a fun, family-friendly event to the base, but we also showed the wide range of recreation, family support, and Airman sustainment programs that are available to our customers right here on the base, The “Unbirthday Celebration” was well attended and, judging by the smiles in all our guest faces, I’d say it was one of our greatest hits so far.”
