Carbon monoxide: Silent, invisible killer

1The temperature has dropped here in the Sonoran Desert making it necessary to turn on the heater. With that comes an increased risk of carbon monoxide being produced in the home. CO is a byproduct of incomplete combustion. It is often called the invisible killer and can have devastating affects on people.

Professionals at the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Fire Emergency Services would like to remind all Desert Lightning Team members that if a CO detector sounds in the home, everyone in the household should immediately go outside to fresh air. When everyone is accounted for, call 911 or 520-228-3333  and let the dispatcher know if anyone is experiencing flu-like symptoms.

Also important to remember to never use the oven to warm the house, warm-up vehicles outside the garage and avoid using barbecue grills in an enclosed area.

For those living in base housing and having problems with a detector, call Soaring Heights Housing Maintenance at 520-748-3334 for repair. For more information, call the DM FES Prevention Division at 520-228-4333.
