Give Parents a Break: Noon-5 p.m., March 17 at the CDC. Deployed families and families under extreme stress can take advantage of this FREE childcare program.  In order to qualify, parents will need a certificate from the A&FRC or from their first sergeant.

Three-day Department of Labor Employment Workshop: April 3,4 and 5, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., in the  AFFTC Conference Center. Registration closes March 13. Early registration allows time for the Disabled American Veterans representative to pull medical records for review.  Seminar includes job search and resume guidelines, VA brief and review of medical records.  Spouses are encouraged to attend. SBP/Casualty Assistance Office: The SBP and Casualty Assistance Office is now combined and located in Bldg. 3000, Room 215. Please note: Every retiring member, married or single, must make a valid election prior to retiring. See the SBP counselor for more details. Retired military survivor assistance is available at the A&FRC. Contact the SBP/Casualty Assistance office at (661) 277-3757. Help is available to file claims through various agencies: DFAS, V.A., SSA, OPM.

Air Force Aid Society: Effective today, Air Force active duty/spouse, retired, widow/widower with internet access and an email address will be able to apply for AFAS assistance using the new AFAS Online Application by registering and completing the application at https://my.afas.org/memberportal/Login/Login.aspx. The client completes and submits the application to the Airman and Family Readiness Center at the selected base. The applicant will be instructed to call the center to schedule an appointment. HAP Arnold Scholarship: Concerned about the soaring cost of higher education for your children? Maybe the Air Force Aid Society can help! Under its General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program, the society awards $2,000 each to selected applicants. The program continues to be offered to dependent sons and daughters of active duty, Title 10 AGR/Reservists on extended active duty, Title 32 AGR performing full-time active duty, retired, retired Reservists with 20 plus qualifying years of service, and deceased Air Force members. Spouses (residing stateside) of active duty and Title 10 AGR/Reservists on extended active duty; and surviving spouses of deceased members are also eligible candidates. Don’t think you won’t qualify. Military Family Life Consultant: A Military Family Life Consultant is on board at the A&FRC to help military members, spouses, family members, friends and staff members address issues such as relationships, deployment, parenting, stress, grief and many other issues. Spouse Employment/Volunteer Resource: Link to area employment and volunteer opportunities through your Airman & Family Readiness Center. Individual consultation is also available by appointment to provide assistance with resumes, education opportunities and career development. Arts and Crafts Center

Basket Weaving Class: 5:30-7:30 p.m., March 20. Cost is $30 which includes all supplies. Pre-registration is required. Jenny, our new teacher, will teach you how to weave a small market basket in one evening session.

Welcome to the Wood Shop: Chuck is our wood shop instructor and he can make a variety of projects for the units or personal gifts. You can choose from an assortment of woods in the shop from walnut to oak to mahogany. We can make flag cases, coin racks, memorial boxes and shadow boxes. Right now Chuck is making a variety of cutting boards made from solid walnut. Come in and see our samples!

Custom Flag Cases: We now make custom size flag cases with certificate boxes. The cases are handmade in our wood shop by our wood shop instructor, Chuck. You can choose your own size, shape and type of wood. We have the following woods on hand for your selection: oak, walnut, maple, cherry and mahogany. These cases are truly a gift to treasure.

Pottery Parties: Cost: $20 per person””includes all tools, instruction and firing fees. Great for Birthdays parties, spouses groups, or anyone looking for something fun to do at Edwards. Each 3 hour party teaches the basics of working with clay while creating a fun hand built project (by appointment only).

Renovations: Through April 15 the Club Muroc ballroom, Pancho’s and Runway rooms will be closed for renovations.  Lunch, Dining and Fogelman’s Lounge will operate as normal. The Glen Edwards Room will be available for small functions up to 20 people as well as off-site catering. Phone the Club for further information.

Family Child Care

Family Child Care is seeking dedicated people who love working with children!  If you live on-base and want to care for children in your home or you are a military dependent and live off-base, you may be eligible to be a licensed or affiliated provider!  Make a positive difference in the lives of children! Most materials and training are provided free of charge!

The Benefits of Being a Family Child Care Provider: Being able to work out of your home, working while caring for your own children, being in charge of your own business, doing work that you love, setting your own hours and free training! We need providers to offer alternate hours to accommodate evening, swing and weekend duty hours. We are looking for providers to offer care for children with special needs including asthma, allergies, cerebral palsy and other physical impairments. Transparent Language Online:  This effective and engaging language-learning program is available for libraries and their patrons. The program is accessible via the Internet and will be available to Air Force active duty, Air National Guard, Reservists, Retirees and their respective family members.  Air Force civilian employees and contractors who are eligible to use an Air Force library are also eligible.  All users must register in person at an Air Force library and can then use it anywhere and at anytime. Transparent Language Online is packed full of pronunciation, speech, grammar, writing and vocabulary building lessons for more than 80 languages. Outdoor Recreation

Kids Snorkel: 10-11 a.m., March 17 at the Oasis Aquatic Center. Cost is $25 per student. Come splash around in the pool and learn how to snorkel!  Snorkel, fins and mask are not provided but are available for purchase at Outdoor Recreation

Open Paintball: 10 a.m.-4 p.m., March 17 at the Scorpions Nest. Cost: $35 package includes 500 rounds, air, equipment rental and field fees, $25 package includes air, equipment rental and field fees, $10 field fee and $5 all day air.  Beginners through advanced players are welcome.

CATM range open: 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Rod and Gun Club. Pistol rentals are available at Rod and Gun (Bldg. 210).

Open Water SCUBA: 4:30-7 p.m., March 19-20 (classroom), and March 21-22 (pool). Cost is $510.  Get your scuba certification.  If you’ve always wanted to learn how to SCUBA dive, discover new adventures or simply see the wondrous world beneath the waves; this is where is starts.

Climbing Class: 5 p.m., March 20 at the Oasis Aquatic Center. Cost is $15 and advanced registration is required. Minimum of four, maximum of eight participants. Learn basic climbing techniques, skills and safety. You will be required to return at a later time to be tested on your training.  Successful completion of the class and testing will grant you access to the wall and climbing equipment.

Archery: Come test your equipment at our self use Archery range! The range is FREE to those with their own equipment. If you would like to try archery and do not have equipment; equipment is available for rent at the Rod and Gun Club.

3 PM Special!! Pick-up skis/snowboards after 3 p.m. and that day is free. Pay for the next day and return it by noon on the third day and it’s only a ONE-day charge!

“Big 50:” Thursdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Rod and Gun. The “Big 50″ is an ATA Registered shoot in which each participant shoots 50 single targets, 50 double targets and 50 targets from their handicapped position.

Cooking Equipment: We have oil less infrared cookers and traditional fryers for only $5 a day!

Stables: Did you know that outdoor Recreation has riding stables where you can board your horse? For $75 a month you can board your horse at Outdoor Recreations Riding Stables. Please call Outdoor Recreation for more details.

Overnight Camping at Branch Park: Cost is $5 for a campsite for up to four people. Come and get a “wilderness experience” right here on base. This will be primitive camping (no potable water, no telephones, and no RVs).

Private Parties: Rod & Gun, Paintball, and other Outdoor Recreation activities are available for squadron functions and private parties. In addition to using our facilities, let us plan a trip for you! Interested in going somewhere with your squadron or a group of friends? Tell us and we’ll do the legwork for you. Let us know how many people, where you want to go, and what your budget is and we’ll do the rest!

Team Building: Does your office, element or group need some team building? Come talk to us! We have instructors and the facilities to make it a great afternoon/day for you and your staff. Prices vary depending on the activity and group size. Call us today and let’s plan an event!

Private Swimming Lessons: Cost is $15 for a 45-minute lesson, and is open to all ages. Schedule your appointment with one of our lifeguards for a time that works for you! Lunchtime Disc Golf:  Wednesdays, noon, Mojave Greens Disc Golf Course, Hole 1. Join us for a round of lunchtime golf. Players of all skill levels are invited to attend. Experienced golfers will be on hand to offer advice and work with beginners. Equipment will be available for loan. Take this opportunity to meet other disc golfers on base and challenge each other on the course!

Equipment Orientation Classes: Tuesdays, 10-11 a.m., Wednesdays, 4-5 p.m., and Thursdays, 7-8 p.m. Not sure how to use equipment or what it does for you? Stop by the front desk and sign up for this one-hour class. We are here to help you get the most out of your fitness routine.

Arts & Crafts: Thursdays, 3:30 p.m., at the Teen Center. Cost is free. This month we will be making a t-shirt, photo collage on canvas and a self-portrait day.

Keystone Club: 12:30 p.m., Fridays in Desert High School, Room 5. The Keystone Club is a leadership group for high school students to learn and practice leadership skills through the management of community service projects and fund raising activities.

4-H Photography Club: 3:30-5 p.m., March 21 in the Club Room. Youth will have the opportunity to learn and experience basic photography skills.

Torch Club: 3:30-4:30 p.m., March 22 in the Action Room. Are you a leader?  Do you want to be a leader but are unsure of where to begin?  Torch Club is an exciting leadership club that will teach you valuable skills and will help you enhance your leadership capabilities.

Boys & Girls Club Power Hour/Project Learn ““ Join today! Monday-Thursday, 2:30-3:30 p.m., ages 6-12 years. Power Hour: Making Minutes Count helps Club members be more successful in school by providing homework help, tutoring and encouraging members to become self-directed learners.

Free Thinkers Reading Club: Mondays, 3:30-4:30 p.m., Club Room. Youth will have the opportunity to learn and practice reading, writing and public speaking skills.

Model Building Club: Tuesdays, 4-5 p.m., Club Room. Youth can choose from several plastics models as well as learn building techniques with the end product being their very own.

Youth Programs offers the following Instructional Classes

“One Page at a Time” Air Force Reading Program: This motivational program is open to youth ages 5-13. Children read books, document their literacy accomplishments and earn incentives for their successes!

Edwards Dance Factory: Dance Classes are held at the Creative Arts Center (JZ) for ages 3-15. Receive professional dance instruction in ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, competition team, and Disneyland Jazz. There are many great opportunities for youth who love to dance. Toddler Learning Center: Toddler Classes are held at the Creative Arts Center (JZ) for ages 1-4, older siblings are welcome! Are you looking for a class for you and your toddler to participate together? If so, then this is the class for you!
