Commuter delays

Commuters may experience delays at the North, South and West Gates 9 a.m.-3 p.m., March 24 due to monthly testing of the Vehicle Barrier System. Testing will be accomplished during low traffic flow times and could last up to 15 minutes.

Holocaust Remembrance

Anyone interested in organizing a Holocaust Remembrance event this spring, should attend a meeting 8 a.m., March 28 in the Drug Demand Reduction building theater.

People are needed to assist in coordinating the event. If individuals cannot attend but would like to assist in the planning process, call Tech. Sgt. Nancy Horsey at (661) 277-5548.

Summer employment 2012

Vacancy announcements will be open through March 30 and posted at Available positions are lifeguards and Lead Lifeguards.

All General Schedule positions will be recruited for and filled not to exceed 89 days. Applicants should carefully read each announcement to determine if they qualify and apply.

Resumes for the summer hire program must be submitted through the USAJOBS website. Resumes will not be accepted at the Edwards Civilian Personnel Office. Once the resume is uploaded with all required supporting documentation (i.e. Lifeguard certificates, school transcripts, etc.), applicants may apply for positions during the announcement period.

These positions are identified as designated Drug Testing Positions.

NASA Women’s History Month event

There will be a luncheon for special guest Nichelle Nichols 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., March 29 at the NASA Integrated Support Facility. Tickets are $10 and will be available this week.

Nichols played Uhura on the original “Star Trek.” Nichols’ role broke the stereotype barrier among African-American actresses.

Civilian education applicants

The goal of the Civilian Developmental Education program is to identify promising employees and select them for a developmental educational program that best suits their individual career goals as well as meeting the needs of the Air Force.

There are a wide variety of opportunities for civilians to develop leadership and management competencies. This year approximately 700 candidates in grades GS-07 thru GS-15 will be selected for the CDE schools and programs which will be funded by the Air Force Personnel Center Leadership Development Office.

Interested civilian employees can log on to the AFPC website that has been provided to your unit training manager or call Beth Hodge, Education and Training Center, at (661) 277-6972 for more guidance.

The deadline for submitting applications to AFPC is May 1, 2012.

TFSC-SA, AFPC Web applications unavailable for system maintenance

The Total Force Service Center-San Antonio, A1 Service Desk and Air Force Personnel Center Web applications will be unavailable from 6 p.m. March 24 to 4 p.m. March 25, CDT, for system maintenance.

The Air Force Personnel Services, or AFPERS, website will still be available for general personnel information. AFPC’s public website at will also be online for general personnel news.

The major personnel applications and systems affected by this maintenance event include all of AFPC’s secure applications and other Web applications on the AFPC Public Web Services website at The virtual Personnel Center-Guard Reserve, or vPC-GR, application will continue to be accessible to customers.

AFAF campaign

The 2012 Air Force Assistance Fund campaign runs through April 13. This year’s campaign continues the proud heritage of Airmen taking care of Airmen for the 39th year.

The campaign’s “Commitment to Caring” theme reflects everyone’s support for the four Air Force charities – the Air Force Aid Society, Air Force Enlisted Village, Air Force Village and the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation.

“Your personal interest and support to the campaign will be essential as we endeavor to achieve our Edwards AFB campaign goal of $58,400,” said Col. Gregory E. Schwab, 95th Air Base Wing commander.

NARFE informational meeting

There will be an informational meeting 11:30 a.m., March 27 at the Oasis Community Center in Meeting Rooms A and B, sponsored by the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association Antelope Valley Chapter 877.

Federal workers are invited to attend the presentation on the latest issues affecting federal employees and their benefits. Open to all. For members, the fight to defend the earned retirement, pay and health benefits of federal workers and annuitants is happening now. For non-members, find out what you can do to protect your federal benefits. NARFE is the only association solely dedicated to protecting federal employee benefits. Attendess can go through the walk-through lunch line at Panda Express or bring your own lunch. Program will begin at 11:45 a.m.

2012 community pageant

The reigning 2011 Edwards Community Queens: Miss Edwards, Cassandra Kruger; Junior Miss, Danika Blake and Little Miss, Kristy Mace, request your attendance at the 2012 Edwards AFB Community Pageant.

The pageant begins at 2 p.m., March 31 at the Oasis Community Center Stripes Lounge. Tickets are $5 per person in advance, $7 at the door (free admission for children 4 years of age and under).

RAB vacancy

Representatives are needed for the environmental cleanup advisory board. There are vacancies for positions representing the 95th Air Base Wing, base housing and North Base. You must live or work in the area you represent.

Scholarships available

The Edwards Enlisted Spouses Club is accepting scholarship applications from military spouses and graduating, or graduated, high school dependent children until April 4.

Two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 and $500 each will be awarded in each category of spouse and dependent child. Applications can be picked up at Created Treasures Gift Shop in Bldg. 7210 or on our Facebook page at

Every year the Edwards Officers’ Spouses’ Club gives away thousands of dollars for educational scholarships. The EOSC Scholarship Program recognizes and rewards outstanding graduating high school students.

The program seeks to identify and reward military family members who have demonstrated the highest personal and intellectual qualities both through superior academic performance, participation and leadership in extracurricular and community activities.

The EOSC invites interested persons to download an application for scholarship at; click on the link for scholarships at the top of the page.

Applications must be postmarked on or before March 1, and the winners will be notified by phone no later than March 30. Money available for scholarships varies every year based on OSC fundraising.

Historically the group has awarded anywhere from $10,000-$18,000 in scholarships to 3-6 recipients depending on available funds and deserving applicants.
