Team Edwards, how much is your time worth?
A recent rise in speed related near-misses reported on Rosamond Blvd. has generated the following analysis from the Air Force Flight Test Center Safety Office.
A near-miss is defined as someone going over the posted speed limit, changes lanes abruptly without signaling, or “cuts off” someone in the opposite lane, especially near the West Gate.
The route is Rosamond Blvd., which is from the base perimeter to Building 1.
Assuming two minutes at the gate; your delay of course may vary.
At the posted speed limits, it will take 17 minutes 25 seconds. If you, like many on the base, apply the 5-mph-over philosophy, the route will take 16 minutes 8 seconds.
For those that apply the plus-five philosophy, the 95th Security Force Squadron may graciously provide you a speeding ticket for the 1 minute and 17 second savings.
Finally, the reality of arriving a little over a minute earlier than a compliant co-worker is certainly not worth the potential cost in fines or the higher potential for a mishap.
Bottom line, drive the limit, avoid the fine and arrive alive!
