Awareness month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. With the help of the 95th Security Forces Squadron team, the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office is having Self-Defense classes 11 a.m.-1 p.m., April 12 and 26 in the grassy area of the roundabout at the Health and Wellness Center and Oasis Community Center.

All participants should have approval of their leadership to combine their PT time and lunch hour to attend. Sign up at the gym or the SARC office, Bldg. 3940 Room 200, on the second floor.

All participants must sign a Hold Harmless Agreement when signing up.

Air Force Academy visit

April 25, Edwards will have host a representative come from the Air Force Academy to brief young Airmen interested in attending the Air Force Academy through the LEAD (Leaders Encouraging Airmen Development) Commissioning Program.

AFA representatives will be at the Education and Training Complex in Bldg. 2453, Classroom 123. RSVP by April 16.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be less than 23 years of age by July 12012 for entry into the USAFA, or less than 22 years of age by July 1 for entry to the Preparatory School.
  • Unmarried
  • U.S. Citizen – or able to obtain citizenship prior to entry
  • No dependents

 

Scholarships

The Edwards AFB Chapter of the Logistics Officer Assocation will be accepting applications for scholarships to be awarded at our 2012 National Conference.

The scholarship application is open to those who are members of LOA, children of active and corporate LOA members, and all enlisted members of the Armed Forces.

The number and size of scholarship may vary each year but will, generally, be distributed in the following manner:

  • Pursuing Masters Degree: First place, $5,000; second, $2,500; third, $1,000; fourth, $500.
  • Pursuing Bachelors: First, $5,000; second, $2,500; third, $1,000; fourth, $500.
  • Current High School student: First, $1,500; second, $750; third, $300; fourth, $150.

The deadline for applications is May 30.

May 5 is Retiree Appreciation Day

All military retirees are invited to come out to Edwards AFB 8 a.m.-noon, May 5 at the Air Force Flight Test Center Museum.

Come and learn about federal programs that affect you. There will be guest speakers, refreshments, goodie bags and prizes. There will also be military and private information booths. Edwards AFB appreciates all retirees for your service to the nation. There is no charge for this event.

Graduate school

Webster University, an ACBSP regionally accredited university, is accepting applications for graduate school. Come get your degree in Management and Leadership, Human Resource, or MBA here at Edwards AFB or Online.

Webster is located at the Education Complex, Bldg. 2453, or call (661) 258-8501.

 

Civilian education applicants

The goal of the Civilian Developmental Education program is to identify promising employees and select them for a developmental educational program that best suits their individual career goals as well as meeting the needs of the Air Force.

There are a wide variety of opportunities for civilians to develop leadership and management competencies. This year approximately 700 candidates in grades GS-07 thru GS-15 will be selected for the CDE schools and programs which will be funded by the Air Force Personnel Center Leadership Development Office.

Interested civilian employees can log on to the AFPC website that has been provided to your unit training manager or call Beth Hodge, Education and Training Center, at (661) 277-6972 for more guidance.

The deadline for submitting applications to AFPC is May 1, 2012.

 

AFAF campaign

The 2012 Air Force Assistance Fund campaign runs through April 13. This year’s campaign continues the proud heritage of Airmen taking care of Airmen for the 39th year.

The campaign’s “Commitment to Caring” theme reflects everyone’s support for the four Air Force charities – the Air Force Aid Society, Air Force Enlisted Village, Air Force Village and the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation.

“Your personal interest and support to the campaign will be essential as we endeavor to achieve our Edwards AFB campaign goal of $58,400,” said Col. Gregory E. Schwab, 95th Air Base Wing commander.
