AFMC Commander’s Log – Drunk Driving

AFMC Warriors,

The number of drunk driving incidents within our command has doubled what it was at this time for each of the past three years.
Already at too high of a rate, this number of DUIs/OVIs is very alarming. I expect each member of AFMC to make the responsible decision to not drink and drive. I do not want to lose any of our AFMC family to a poor choice. It is incomprehensible that any of you would consciously place yourself, your passengers, and others on the roadway at risk.
I call upon each of you to make a responsible plan before you go out. Don’t drink. If you do drink, always drink responsibly. If you choose to drink, take the contact information for Airmen Against Drunk Driving and local taxi companies with you. Have a designated driver that does not drink and be a good Wingman!
Additionally, if you think you need help with dependency issues, please take advantage of all the resources available to you.
I encourage you to enroll in the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment Program and seek assistance from your commander, first sergeant, substance abuse counselors, or medical professionals. If you self identify, the fact that you asked for help cannot be used against you for disciplinary purposes, as long as you are proactive and not currently under investigation or pending action as a result of an alcohol-related incident.
Each of you is smart enough to make the right choice to not drink and drive. Commit to making that choice upfront and then follow through.

Gen. Donald J. Hoffman
commander, Air Force Materiel Command
