With May officially marking the end of this year’s Air Force Assistance Fund campaign Air Force-wide, Team Edwards once again went above and beyond in terms of showing why it’s not only committed to caring, but committed to giving as well.
Although this year’s AFAF campaign at Edwards ran from March 5 through April 20, Edwards not only met the campaign goal of $58,400, but surpassed it by 18 percent.
“We have successfully completed the Air Force Assistance Fund campaign for 2012. This year’s AFAF campaign continued our proud heritage of Airmen taking care of Airmen for the 39th year. Our campaign’s theme this year was ‘Commitment to Caring’ and it echoed your support for our four Air Force charities – the Air Force Aid Society, Air Force Enlisted Village, Air Force Village, and the General & Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation,” said Col. Gregory Schwab, 95th Air Base Wing commander. “I would like to thank everyone for their personal interest and support to the campaign as it was essential to Edwards surpassing our campaign goal.”
Aside from raising a total of $69,035 this year, the installation also achieved 100-percent contact, according to Capt. Ronald Elazegui, 95th Medical Support Squadron pharmacist and AFAF Installation Project Officer for this year’s AFAF campaign.
“We could not have achieved this tremendous success without the support and dedication from our installation project officers, Captain Elazegui and Capt. Scott Burrows, for helping with this year’s campaign efforts and each unit’s AFAF team for their generous contributions and great support,” added Schwab.
After receiving a tally of the base’s grand total, Elazegui said that the monetary total became a first for Team Edwards.
“Although we were initially hoping to surpass the record in terms of giving percentages, which was 137 percent in 2009, we still did pretty well, given that we ranked second in Air Force Materiel Command and that this was the highest monetary amount ever given at Edwards,” said Elazegui.
The AFAF was established to provide for an annual effort to raise funds for the charitable affiliates that provide support to those in the Air Force family (active duty, retirees, reservists, guard and their dependents, including surviving spouses) in need.
