Three-day Department of Labor Employment Workshop: June 5-7, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., AFFTC Conference Center. Attendees must register by May 29. Youth Bowling League is coming this fall!  We will be offering a 2012-2013 Fall Youth League.  We are in need of energetic adults to step up and run the league for youth ages 4-18 years. The youth league will be a great way to teach your children to bowl and learn teamwork. For more information please contact High Desert Lanes.

Unit Functions: Daily, Open-Close, with reservations. Cost is $5 per person and includes three games and shoes. Units may reserve lanes anytime during open bowling for parties, commander’s calls, team building events, etc.

Children’s Library Relocation: Due to budget and facility constraints, the Children’s Library and its programs will relocate to the Main Library, Bldg. 2665, 5 North Wolfe Ave. All existing Children’s Library programs will continue in the Main Library. The last day of operation in Bldg. 7210 will be June 8.

Story Time: Wednesdays and Fridays at 10 a.m. Base employees and community members volunteer their time to read stories and create a craft project designed for toddlers and pre-school children.

Outdoor Recreation

Climbing Trip to New Jack City: May 26, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Prior completion of Wall Climbing Certification class is required. Cost is $30 and sign up is required by May 18. Minimum of four participants, maximum of eight. Enjoy a day of climbing at the spot known as New Jack City near Barstow. We will be focusing on easier routes that are beginner friendly.  This will be a great introduction to the sport and an excellent opportunity to acquaint you with one of many recreational areas in Southern California. Bring your own food and water. ODR will provide equipment and transportation.

May Flowers Shoot: May 26 and 27, Rod and Gun. Registration starts at 9 a.m., first rotation starts at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $16 plus $5 NSSA/CSSA fees. Saturday – 12ga and 20ga, Sunday – 28 and .410 (must be current member of NSSA & CSSA)

Two-man Strongman Challenge: Wednesdays, noon. Each week will consist of a different activity. Activities may include tire flip, push-up and sit-up challenges, weighted belt 800 yard relay as well as pull-ups. Points will be given throughout the activities with a Grand Champion announced during the final week.

Healthy Weight Class: Thursdays, noon-1:30 p.m. (call the HAWC for more information).

Boys & Girls Club ImageMakers National Photography Contest: Imagemakers is a comprehensive photography program for all youth members, ages 6-18 years. This program motivates members to hone their photography skills, encourages them to participate in photography classes, field trips and other arts-related activities as well as showcase their photos in the community.

Free Thinkers Reading Club: Mondays, 3:30-4:30 p.m., Club Room. Youth will have the opportunity to learn and practice reading, writing and public speaking skills.

Model Building Club: Tuesdays, 4-5 p.m., Club Room. Youth can choose from several plastics models as well as learn building techniques with the end product being their very own.

“One Page at a Time” Air Force Reading Program: This motivational program is open to youth ages 5-13. Children read books, document their literacy accomplishments and earn incentives for their successes!

Edwards Dance Factory: Dance Classes are held at the Creative Arts Center (JZ) for ages 3-15. Receive professional dance instruction in ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, competition team, and Disneyland Jazz. There are many great opportunities for youth who love to dance.
