AFMC Warriors,

It is with mixed emotions that I write my final Commander’s Log.

While I am excited for the adventures ahead, I am also saddened to leave the fine men and women of our AFMC family.

I will miss that sense of community and mutual trust that exists instantly in every Airman I meet. I take great pride in knowing that I’ve had the unique opportunity to command one of the finest, most diverse, organizations in the United States Air Force. Whether military, civilian, or contractor, I have seen you demonstrate time and again a profound commitment to selfless service.

Over the past three and a half years, we have experienced significant changes and challenges. Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, shrinking budgets, reduced manpower, hi ops tempo, deployments, and much more have caused us to adjust our paradigms, seek innovative and creative solutions, and rethink our approach to the AFMC mission and organization. I am confident that AFMC is in capable hands with General Janet Wolfenbarger taking command. There is no one with more acquisition expertise, intelligence, and leadership ability in the Air Force today.

I have enjoyed being your Commander, and working together to provide a superior defense for our nation in an ever changing environment. The threats we face today are different than when I commissioned in 1974 and they will continue to change. The technology we develop, the systems we acquire and the platforms we maintain must evolve to meet and defeat those threats. At the end of the day our success is really measured by how well we support and sustain the warfighter.

We were the best Air Force in the world when I joined. It is smaller now and missions have changed, but it is still the best Air Force in the world, and I have total confidence in those who follow me.those who will keep it the best Air Force in the world!

You make me proud as a commander and honored to have served with you. Jacki and I wish you the absolute best!

General Hoffman

When leaders earn their keep

It’s no secret that a key to being a good leader, military or otherwise, is taking care of your people. I strongly believe Airmen aren’t able to perform at their peak if their personal lives are in disarray. Whether financial woes, marital issues, illnesses or other troubles, it’s tough to be at your best when...
