Ten Steps to Federal Employment: June 22, 1-2:30 p.m., Bldg. 3000 (MSG Conference Room). The class is for spouses, active duty and transitioning military members who are interested in applying for a job with the federal government and developing their resumes.  Topics will include how to navigate through USAjobs, building a resume and education on Military Spouse and Veteran’s preference. Volunteers Needed: The Airman and Family Readiness Center is in need of volunteers to assist with daily admin and front desk tasks. SBP/Casualty Assistance Office: The SBP and Casualty Assistance Office is now combined and located in Bldg. 3000, Room 215. Please note: Every retiring member, married or single, must make a valid election prior to retiring. See the SBP counselor for more details. Retired military survivor assistance is available at the A&FRC. Contact the SBP/Casualty Assistance office at (661) 277-3757. Help is available to file claims through various agencies: DFAS, V.A., SSA, OPM.

Air Force Aid Society: Effective today, Air Force active duty/spouse, retired, widow/widower with internet access and an email address will be able to apply for AFAS assistance using the new AFAS Online Application by registering and completing the application at https://my.afas.org/memberportal/Login/Login.aspx. The client completes and submits the application to the Airman and Family Readiness Center at the selected base. The applicant will be instructed to call the center to schedule an appointment. Flag cases: As requested we now make custom size flag cases with certificate boxes. The cases are handmade in our wood shop by our wood shop instructor, Chuck. You can choose your own size, shape and type of wood (oak, walnut, maple, cherry and mahogany). These are truly a gift to treasure.

Family Child Care

Family Child Care is seeking dedicated people who love working with children!  If you live on-base and want to care for children in your home or you are a military dependent and live off-base, you may be eligible to be a licensed or affiliated provider!  Make a positive difference in the lives of children! Most materials and training are provided free of charge!

The Benefits of Being a Family Child Care Provider: Being able to work out of your home, working while caring for your own children, being in charge of your own business, doing work that you love, setting your own hours and free training! We need providers to offer alternate hours to accommodate evening, swing and weekend duty hours. We are looking for providers to offer care for children with special needs including asthma, allergies, cerebral palsy and other physical impairments. Youth Bowling League is coming this fall!  We will be offering a 2012-2013 Fall Youth League.  We are in need of energetic adults to step up and run the league for youth ages 4-18 years. Green Pin Bowling: Mondays, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. $2 per game, $1.75 adult shoe rental, $1.50 youth shoe rental. If the head pin is green and you roll a strike you get that game free.

Penny A Pin: Tuesdays: 2-7 p.m. Pay only for what you knock down! Cost is one cent per pin and if you bowl over a 200, the game is free. Shoe rental: adult is $1.75 and youth is $1.50.

 Water Volleyball: June 23, 1-4 p.m., at the Oasis Aquatic Center. Cost is free, but pre-registration required. Five-person teams with a four-team minimum

Landsailing: June 23, 1-5 p.m., Rogers Dry Lakebed. Cost is  $35 per person. Bring your sunscreen and plenty of water.  Reserve your space early!

CATM Range Open: June 23, Rod & Gun. Cost is  $5 per hour for non-members, $3 per hour for members. Pistol rentals are available at Rod & Gun (Bldg. 210).

Wall Climbing Class: June 26, 5 p.m., at the Oasis Aquatic Center Climbing Wall. Cost is $15, sign-up by noon on the day of the class.

Kids Snorkel: June 27, 11 a.m. at the Sonic Splash Pool. Cost is $25 per student, sign up by June 26.

Horseback Riding Lessons: Variety of lessons offered. Call Outdoor Recreation for more information.

Oasis Aquatic Center: Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., lap swim only (as of June 4), closed weekends and holidays.

Pool Passes are Now Available: Price is $20 for single, $50 for family of three, then $5 for each additional family member. Passes last from Memorial Day to Labor Day and are good at any of our outdoor pools!

“Big 50:” Thursdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Rod and Gun. The “Big 50” is an ATA Registered shoot in which each participant shoots 50 single targets, 50 double targets and 50 targets from their handicapped position.

Archery: Come test your equipment at our self use Archery range! The range is FREE to those with their own equipment. If you would like to try archery and do not have equipment; equipment is available for rent at the Rod and Gun Club.

Cooking Equipment: We have oil less infrared cookers and traditional fryers for only $5 a day!

Overnight Camping at Branch Park: Cost is $5 for a campsite for up to four people. Come and get a “wilderness experience” right here on base. This will be primitive camping (no potable water, no telephones, and no RVs).

Lunchtime Disc Golf at Mojave Greens: Wednesdays, noon, Mojave Greens Disc Golf Course, Hole 1. Join us for a round of lunchtime golf. Players of all skill levels are invited to attend. Experienced golfers will be on hand to offer advice and work with beginners. Equipment will be available for loan. Take this opportunity to meet other disc golfers on base and challenge each other on the course!

4-H Photography/Move Club: June 27 and July 25, 3 p.m., in the Club Room. Youth will have the opportunity to learn and experience basic photography skills.

Youth Programs offers the following Instructional Classes

“One Page at a Time” Air Force Reading Program: This motivational program is open to youth ages 5-13. Children read books, document their literacy accomplishments and earn incentives for their successes!

Edwards Dance Factory: Dance Classes are held at the Creative Arts Center (JZ) for ages 3-15. Receive professional dance instruction in ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, competition team, and Disneyland Jazz. There are many great opportunities for youth who love to dance.
