Defense Biometric Identification System being implemented at Edwards

The Air Force is implementing a new Common Access Card scanning system at all installation gates.

The system is called the Defense Biometric Identification System.

The Security Forces staff will be at our gates starting Aug. 6 through Aug. 24 registering ID cards as you drive in. This process takes less than one minute to accomplish.

There will be multiple 412th Security Forces staff members present to help with this process and to keep traffic flowing as quickly as possible through the gates. In some instances your CAC card may already be registered.

After a quick scan of your CAC ID card you will be on your way. We have already tested this process at the Air Force Research Lab with excellent results. Therefore, we are confident the system and process are ready for broader Edwards execution. Delays and traffic back logs will be minimal.

During peak traffic flow times, on scene leadership will monitor traffic patterns and determine if and when vehicles will be allowed to proceed without being fully registered so as to not impede

reporting to work centers. We ask for your cooperation and assistanceas we work to comply with Air Force DBIDS implementation and make our installation a safer and more secure place to live and work.

If anyone is on leave or TDY over the next few weeks and misses out on this registration opportunity, they will still be able to get through the gate. 412th SFS will not, in the near term, be turning anyone away at the gate because their CAC has not been registered.

Anyone who doesn’t get registered can either go through one of the other gates during their registration weeks or stop by the Pass and Registration office inside Bldg. 3000 on main base to have their CAC card registered.

For more information, call Tech. Sgt. Robert Novak, at (661) 277-7988.
