412th MDG Health Fair creates awareness on key issues

Taking care of people in the Edwards community is a top priority for the 412th Medical Group and that includes providing service members, civilians and their families with helpful information about the important medical issues and concerns that the community faces each and every day.

To help create awareness and get the word out, the 412th MDG held a Health Fair Oct. 26 in the Main Clinic’s lobby with representatives from the Pharmacy, Public Health, Family Advocacy, Physical Therapy, Dental Clinic, Women’s Health Clinic; along with the Health and Wellness Center and Civilian Health and Wellness.

“That’s what we’re doing here today is taking care of our population’s healthcare needs. We really have great information to get out there. We had so many booths, there are a lot of resources available through the Medical Group that we want to make people aware of,” said Linda Davis, 412th MDG Medical Management registered nurse.

Also in attendance were representatives from the Beverly Hills-based Cayenne Wellness Center and Children’s Foundation to provide information about Sickle Cell Disease, a disease in which hemoglobin S causes disc-shaped red blood cells to become crescent shaped and results in less oxygen being delivered to the body’s tissues.

Participants at the event also had the opportunity to find out more information about volunteer opportunities with the 412th MDG such as working with the Pharmacy or Medical Management team.

“Many people in our community have chronic illnesses; they range from diabetes to diabetes and depression. Here at Edwards, we have a unique population of military personnel and retirees as well as their family members. We want to make sure they’re all taken care of, that includes getting important information out to them. Information is key when it comes to taking care of yourself,” said Davis.

“I’m very pleased with the Health Fair’s turnout. We had great vendors and great support from the Medical Group and the community,” she continued.
