Edwards AFB, NASA Dryden Honor Dr. Martin Luther King

Members from the Edwards Air Force Base and NASA Dryden community participated in the annual march honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Jan. 17. Participants marched from the 412th Test Wing headquarters to Chapel 1 where a ceremony was held to honor the memory of the late civil rights leader.

Employees of Edwards Air Force Base and NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center joined together to honor the memory of the late civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a memorial observance and a parade Jan. 17.

Centered around the theme of “Remember! Celebrate! Act! – A Day On, Not a Day Off,” the afternoon observance featured a march from the 412th Test Wing headquarters to Chapel 1. At the chapel, the program featured two musical selections from the Edwards Gospel Choir led by Linda Bowling, including the spiritual from which King took his closing comment to conclude his “I have a Dream” speech at the civil rights march in Washington, D.C. in 1963, “Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, I’m free at last.”

The program wrapped up with a motivational address in King’s honor from retired Command Chief Master Sgt. Juan Lewis, focusing not only on King’s civil rights legacy, but on what Americans can do to perpetuate that legacy today.
