Thank you and best wishes

Fellow Airmen,

This week I will retire from active duty after more than 30 years of service. Before I do that, I want to express my sincere appreciation for all you do one more time.

Today’s Air Force is an incredible institution. The amazing things you get done every day are a testament to the innovative spirit of today’s Airmen.

Whether you’re deployed overseas, deployed in-place, working in the nuclear enterprise, working in a Joint or coalition billet, or working at the squadron, group, wing, NAF, MAJCOM, or HQAF level, you are making a difference! Whether you’re in the active duty component, the Air National Guard, or the Air Force Reserve; whether you’re enlisted, an officer, or a civilian, you are an important part of our Total Force team. You are the reason our combatant commanders are confident in the United States Air Force.

I also want to thank our families, who play a huge role in our Air Force’s success. Without the support of our family members we could not begin to be as effective as we are. Through their selfless sacrifice, they empower Airmen to get the job done. Please make sure your family knows Ms. Paula and I appreciate them.

After more than three years of traveling around the world as your CMSAF, one thing is abundantly clear to me: your commitment to mission is incredible! It has been an absolute honor to represent you.

For these reasons, I will retire with a smile on my face. I know the Air Force is in great hands with Secretary Donley, General Welsh and your next CMSAF, Chief Jim Cody at the helm.

I also know you will continue to make us all proud to be part of the world’s greatest Air Force – powered by Airmen, fueled by innovation.

James A. Roy

Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force
