Job fair

The Airman and Family Readiness Center will host a Job Fair for transitioning military members and all military spouses 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Feb. 6. The fair will be held at Club Muroc and is designed to link transitioning military and military spouses to available job opportunities. Representatives of local employers, as well as recruiters nation-wide, will be at the fair to talk about career opportunities and accept resumes.

7th Annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive

The 7th Annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive is an annual competition against all the Los Angeles Police and Fire Departments.

The Edwards community can donate blood Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Chapel 1. To schedule an appointment, visit www.redcrossblood.org/ (sponsor code: badge) or contact Tech. Sgt. South Gate construction delays

Construction began last month to erect a canopy covering the inbound traffic check point at the South Gate. Estimated completion of the construction is Feb.25. Expect possible delays when entering the gate.

Scoring changes to PCSM, AFOQT

Effective Feb. 14, 2013, PCSM, AFOQT-Pilot, and AFOQT-CSO (previously AFOQT-Navigator) scores will change based on updated algorithms and scoring norms. A separate AFOQT air battle manager composite will also be introduced.

Scoring changes will affect pilot, RPA, CSO, and ABM candidates meeting selection boards beginning in August. Scores will automatically be converted using the new method for most candidates, although candidates who completed the AFOQT prior to 2006 (before AFOQT Form S) will be required to re-test. Candidates may verify whether their score of record is Form S at https://w20.afpc.randolph.af.mil/afoqtsnet20/default.aspx. For further information on the scoring changes and re-test policies, candidates are encouraged to visit the PCSM website at http://access.afpc.af.mil/pcsmdmz/index.html. Additionally, candidates will be able to check their new scores on the PCSM website beginning Feb. 14. For more information, email afpc.pcsm@us.af.mil.

 

Leave carry-over extended

Airmen with more than 60 days of leave at the beginning of next fiscal year may be able to carry it into the next fiscal year thanks to a provision in the Fiscal Year 2013 National Defense Authorization Act.

The provision extends the maximum leave carryover of 75 days through Sept. 30, 2015, according to Senior Master Sgt. Kreig Cressione, the Air Force Personnel Center Special Programs Branch Chief.

Pageant

Sign up now to vie for title of Miss, Junior Miss, or Little Miss Edwards Air Force Base. This year’s pageant will be held on March 30. The age categories are: Miss, 16-19; Junior Miss, 11-13; and Little Miss, 6-8.

Rehearsals will begin the first Wednesday in February, and more information will be provided at the first rehearsal meeting.

 

Chapel position

The Edwards Chapel has an opening for a part-time (20 hours per week) chief of Airmen Outreach Operations.

The position will be more demanding during evening and weekend hours. The applicant will be expected to work during the hours when the majority of the enlisted force is off-duty.  A bachelors degree is a requirement for this position, however, a Master of Divinity degree in young adult ministries/outreach is preferred.

The position does not require a minimum number of years of experience working in a faith community setting as we do not want to prohibit the, “right person” from applying. That said, seminary students/graduates as well as those with practical church experience are highly encouraged to apply. In addition, having a military worldview/understanding would be helpful.

Branch fundraiser

Branch Elementary School has the privilege of being part of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital fundraiser call “Math-A-Thon.”  This fundraiser is in honor of Branch student Miguel Ribancos who lost his brave fight with cancer at the age of 7 on Oct. 5, 2012.

If you would like to donate to this wonderful cause, go online to www.mathathon.org and donate to Branch Elementary School.  The school coordinator is Dr. Nancy Whitman, (661) 258-4411.

The fundraiser runs Jan. 15 to Feb. 15; however, St. Jude will accept donations all year long.
