Edwards Exchange transitioning to Rip-Stop Airman Battle Uniform

Maj. Robert Clements, U.S. Air Force Uniform Office deputy chief, speaks to Staff Sgt. George Curley, 102nd Network Warfare Squadron, Rhode Island Air National Guard, about the new Rip-Stop Airman Battle Uniform, featuring a lighter nylon-cotton blend fabric that became available last June. The Air Force Uniform Office sent representatives to last year’s Air Force Association Air and Space Conference and Technology Exposition, Washington D.C., Sept. 17-19, 2012, to spread the word about recent improvements and updates to Air Force gear.

As the Air Force transitions from the Airman Battle Uniform to the Rip-Stop Airman Battle Uniform (RABU), the Army & Air Force Exchange Service will no longer be able to order the ABU once the Defense Logistics Agency’s stock is depleted and will sell only the RABU.

“While the ABUs will still be authorized for wear, they will not be carried in Exchange Military Clothing Stores as the RABU will completely replace the older, heavier ABU,” said the Exchange’s Senior Enlisted Adviser Chief Master Sgt. Tony Pearson.

The RABU is a lighter, nylon/cotton blend that has been available for Airmen at Military Clothing Stores since June, 2012. The RABU is also cooler than the ABU and features a wrinkle-resistant finish.

Military members can access the Exchange’s Military Clothing Store at www.shopmyexchange.com by clicking “Military Clothing Store” under the Store Locator link at the bottom of the page.
