Promotion ceremony

The Team Edwards Promotion Ceremony Committee invites everyone to this month’s enlisted promotion ceremony July 31 in the Base Auditorium at 3 p.m.

Freeway closures

ANTELOPE VALLEY FREEWAY (SR-14) CANYON LANE CLOSURES

The California Department of Transportation will close portions of Antelope Valley Freeway SR-14 from Sierra Highway (Soledad Canyon Road) to Palmdale Boulevard as part of a pavement rehabilitation project.†Closures are as follows and subject to change:

July 28-Aug. 2
Northbound SR-14
8 p.m. to 6 a.m.- Up to three lanes between Soledad Canyon Rd. and Palmdale Blvd.
7 p.m.-6 a.m.- On and Off Ramps CLOSED between Sierra Highway and Avenue S

Southbound SR-14
8 p.m.-6 a.m.- Up to three lanes between Palmdale Blvd. and Soledad Canyon Rd.
7 p.m.-6 a.m.- On and Off Ramps CLOSED between Avenue S and Sierra Highway

This project may require FULL freeway closures. Advance notices will be provided. Detours will be posted. New pavement will improve mobility and enhance safety for motorists. Caltrans advises motorists to “Slow For The Cone Zone.”

Fitness center closure

The Rosburg Fitness Center will be closed Saturdays due to the furlough. The new Fitness Center hours are 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Friday, closed Saturday and Sunday. Anticipated normal hours of operation will resume after Sept. 28, 2013.

New DOD Student Complaint System

As part of the Presidential Executive Order 13607 ensuring the quality of academic programs for service members, the Department of Defense has launched the DOD Complaint System for service members to use to file complaints against academic institutions in areas related to fraud, misrepresentation, etc. The Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Education have partnered with the Department of Justice to develop a system to track and monitor student complaints for possible action.

The Air Force is piloting the DOD program until July 17.

Airmen may reach the DOD Complaint System through the Air Force Virtual Education Center at https://www.my.af.mil/afvecprod/afvec/Home.aspx.

Technical Research Library closure

The Technical Research Library will be closed through July 26 in order to complete the second half of the moveable shelving renovation. During this time, the library will be closed to walk in users but will still be able to provide limited reference and assistance by phone and email. To return materials during this time, place items in the library book drop located in Bldg. 1400 outside of Room 106. The library will reopen July 29.

Retirement

Join Chief Master Sgt. Paul J. Vergeldt in celebrating his retirement from the U.S. Air Force Aug. 2 in Bldg. 1820E. A ceremony will be held 10 a.m. at the Joint Strike Fighter Compound. For more information, call (661) 275-6708 or (661) 275-3749.

Gate locked

Due to security-related construction concerns, the gate leading to the Consolidation Recycling Universal Waste Facility (Bldg. 4904) will be closed and locked for several weeks. For universal waste support and other deliveries to 4904, please plan accordingly and call (661) 277-3681 for entry.†Depending on staffing and hazardous/universal waste activity, it may take several minutes before someone can open the gate.
