Check what’s in your food, supplements

While in Florida, a military member recently purchased a yogurt cup that included hemp seeds as one of its ingredients. Luckily she looked at all the ingredients before ingesting the snack.

Air Force Instruction 44-121 states: “3.2.2. Studies have shown that products made with hemp seed and hemp seed oil may contain varying levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), an active ingredient of marijuana which is detectable under the Air Force

Drug Testing Program. In order to ensure military readiness, the ingestion of products containing or products derived from hemp seed or hemp seed oil is prohibited. Failure by military personnel to comply with the prohibition on the ingestion of products containing or products derived from hemp seed or hemp seed oil is a violation of Article 92, Uniform Code of Military Justice.”

Edwards Airmen and civilians alike should make a habit of reading the ingredients on supplements, food items or anything else that they may consume. The excuse “I didn’t know” could potentially put one’s health and career in jeopardy.
