Desert High Robotics

Desert Junior Senior High School is starting a Robotics Club this school year that will compete in First Tech Challenge and possibly some additional VEX events. We are looking for volunteers to help us make this a success.

First Tech Challenge (as well as VEX) work with basic robot construction and programming, and is a logical next step to compliment Branch Elementary School’s First Lego League and a precursor to a full-up Robotics Team. Volunteer opportunities range from assistant coach (4 or 5 hours per week when the team gets going) to mentors (2-5 hours per month) to simple program assistance (Robotics Lab construction and cleaning, guest lectures, moral support, etc.). Practices will be held on base starting in August, and the season will run until February or March. A successful program will require a good number of volunteers with a range of technical, mechanical and/or educational experiences. We are asking you to please consider volunteering and/or solicit volunteers from your organization to see if there are folks interested in helping make this program a reality. The head coach, Robby Weaver, can be reached at robby.weaver@yahoo.com . Please let him know if you have any volunteers, questions or ideas with respect to this very worthwhile endeavor!”
