Prior to privatization, base housing residents forfeited their BAH in exchange for living in government-managed housing. To activate the BAH for privatized housing, base residents must have completed Air Force Form 594 and a Corvias lease known as the Resident Occupancy Agreement. Spouses of deployed service members may start the allotment with a Special Power of Attorney.
After completing the required paperwork, Families who live on base will begin receiving the monthly Basic Allowance for Housing entitlement in September. Then, the Military Assistance Company will automatically withdraw the same amount. Finally, the allotment will be paid to the partnership between the U.S. Air Force and Corvias Military Living. This payment will cover the costs of rent, average utilities, and renter’s insurance for base housing.
Both Airmen in dual-military households will receive a BAH entitlement. For these couples, MAC will collect only the senior-grade Airman’s BAH allotment. The other Airman will keep his/her BAH.
“The automatic payment process is designed to be straightforward and convenient for service members,” said J.C. Calder, program manager for Corvias Military Living.
MAC has been processing military allotments since 1985, and serves military housing offices in all branches of service. The MAC payment system is interfaced with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service.
Each payment will be made in arrears on the first day of the following month. For instance, the September BAH allotment will be withdrawn on October 1 for the prior month’s rent. The BAH allotment will be stopped once the family has moved out.
While BAH allotments are designed to occur automatically, it is the Airman’s responsibility to regularly review the LES for accuracy. Service members should contact the Corvias Community Office if the BAH does not appear on the LES or if the correct allotment is not withdrawn.
In addition to paying for rent, the BAH collected under privatization helps to fund the construction and renovation of homes and community amenities, 24-hour maintenance services, lawn care and ongoing capital repairs.
Corvias Military Living will manage and maintain the housing at Edwards for 50 years.
