Dr. Eileen Bjorkman is presented a going away present by Dr. Davy Belk, Air Force Test Center executive director, during a farewell ceremony at Club Muroc Sept. 24. Bjorkman is retiring from her position as AFTC technical adviser after more than 30 years with the government and military.

A farewell luncheon honoring Air Force Test Center Technical Advisor Eileen Bjorkman was held at Club Muroc Sept. 24.

“I have had an absolutely wonderful career between the military and being a government civilian and my favorite place to be stationed has always been Edwards,” said Bjorkman.

Bjorkman shared that she grew up in a military family and never stayed in one place for long. Her time at Edwards, though not all at once, has added up to eight years.

“Eight years in one place is the longest I’ve ever managed,” said Bjorkman. She added that Edwards is a “magical place.”

Bjorkman’s plans include moving to Seattle, Wash., where she will spend more time with her family.

During her time at Edwards, she provided leadership and final review of the technical aspects of the center’s overall program as well as consultant advice and technical guidance to agencies within and outside the center. She has collaborated with the center commander to establish test and evaluation technical policy and procedures.

She was the senior technical adviser to the AFTC commander regarding health and suitability of airframe, avionics, installed propulsion and electronic warfare flight and supporting ground test capability across AFTC’s test ranges and facilities.

Bjorkman has been chair on the AFFTC Center Systems Engineering Council and is the Science and Engineering Center Functional Manager. She has also represented the center on the Air Force Material Command Engineering Council and was Secretary of the Air Force-Acquisition Senior Leader Development Team.

During her military career she served as a flight test engineer, instructor and test squadron commander. She was a senior non-rated aircrew member and has over 700 flight hours as a flight test engineer in more than 25 different aircraft including the F-4, F-16, C-130 and C-141. She has also served spent time as a director in areas that worked on modeling, simulation, analysis and joint testing.

Bjorkman retired as a colonel after nearly 30 years as an Air Force officer.

When she retired from active duty she was the Chief of Modeling and Simulation Policy Division, Warfighter Systems Integration and Deployment.
