Through our character – an opportunity to reflect on important issues in our community

- A Rod is considered one of baseball’s greats, yet he’s been suspended for 211 games for alleged performance enhancing drug use. Why would someone with so much talent think about taking this chance? New York Times columnist David Brooks speculates that “self preoccupied people have trouble seeing that their natural abilities come from outside themselves and can only be developed when directed toward something else outside themselves. Locked in a cycle of insecurity and self validation, their talents are never enough, and they end up devouring what they have been given.”
