Relief coming to Rosamond, Mercury Blvds

Edwards Air Force Base motorists will benefit from improvements coming soon on Rosamond and Mercury Boulevards beginning Oct. 28.

Two significant projects will be executed to repair heavily damaged sections of these much-used vehicular arteries. The projects are expected to last 60 days.

On Rosamond Blvd., two heavily damaged roadway sections on the inbound two lanes, between the base boundary and the Rosamond Dry Lakebed, will be rebuilt, while on Mercury Blvd, a washed-out area which has required the road’s closure will be excavated and rebuilt.

The work on Rosamond Blvd. will require the reconfiguration of its outbound two lanes to two-way traffic, one lane in, one lane out, for approximately one mile just west of the Rosamond Dry Lakebed.

This configuration is shown to the right (for best view, download the high resolution version). While traffic is diverted from that section of roadway, significant damage caused by long years of use will be repaired.

Work on Mercury will repair a more recent problem. In August, heavy rains resulted in over-topping of roadway and pavement collapse. Closed since, repairs will include the installation of drainage structures proven necessary by that storm, significantly reducing the risks from future storms and allowing the re-opening of Mercury between 140th East and Rich Road.

Motorists are reminded to obey all signs and exercise extra caution in the construction areas, especially when workers are present.
