Military Working Dog, Schmykel, held his grip as Col. Robert Hoff, 412th Mission Support†Group commander,†swung him in the air during a military working dog demonstration Nov. 8. Schmykel is trained not to release the bite until commanded to by his handler, Staff Sgt. Manuel Rodriguez (right), 412th Security Forces Squadron. According to Rodriguez, Military Working Dogs can be used for detection of narcotics and explosives, or for patrol. When on patrol, the use of a K-9 might be used as a physical or psychological deterrent or in the apprehension of a suspect.
