Annual Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony

The Airman and Family Readiness Center is preparing for the annual Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony in April that celebrates all the volunteers at Edwards Air Force Base and their service between Jan. 1 and Dec., 31 2013.

We’re asking all agencies, organizations and units who use volunteers and those who have employees that volunteer somewhere on Edwards AFB to submit their volunteers’ names, e-mail, phone number and total number of hours volunteered to Maricel Rusit by Feb. 6. To submit a volunteer for the Volunteer Excellence Award, contact Rusit at (661) 277-0723 or email maricel.rusit@us.af.mil. VEA nominations and images are also due by Feb 6.

Housing referral network

On Dec. 31, the Department of Defense sponsorship of the Automated Housing Referral Network will expire. Effective Jan. 1, 2014, housing offices will no longer manage rental listings or communicate with members and property owners through AHRN. However, the AHRN website will continue to operate as a commercial entity and registered users will be prompted to review and accept an updated user agreement. The Air Force remains committed to providing members with affordable, adequate housing and will continue to provide referral and relocation services. Housing offices will maintain available rental listings using a government-managed system. Members and their families should contact or visit the military housing office to receive assistance in locating suitable housing. Property managers and landlords should also contact the installation housing office to list available properties.

The Air Force Housing public website is still available and provides a venue for members to obtain specific installation information on family, unaccompanied and privatized housing. Please visit this site for contact details for Air Force housing offices.
