Relocation of “The Elephant in the Room” event Feb. 7

Due to maintenance issues, “The Elephant in the Room” event 4:45-6 p.m., Feb. 7 will be the Mental Health Clinic (Bldg. 5513) instead of Bldg. 3940. This Q&A discussion will offer parents tips on how to talk to teens about healthy dating, warning signs of an abusive teen relationship, the problem of sexting, social media safety and break-up violence.†Subject matter experts from legal, Office of Special Investigations, L.A. County Sheriff’s Department and parents of teens will be in attendance.†Light Refreshments will be provided. If you are interested in attending, contact Family Advocacy at (661) 277-5292, or the Sexual Assault Prevention Office at (661) 277-4988 to sign up.

Blood drive

The next American Red Cross Blood Drive on Edwards will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Feb. 5 in the Chapel 1 Annex. †Both walk-ins and appointments are accepted. To make an appointment, contact Staff Sgt. Kyle Lareza at

Black History Month Gospel Explosion

In celebration of Black History Month, a Gospel Explosion event will be held 2-6 p.m., Feb. 8 at Chapel 1.†Ministers of all ages from the surrounding community will be guest speakers and all of Team Edwards is invited.

Running with History

“Running with History,” Edwards AFB’s half marathon, 10K and 5K will take
place May 17. †Cost is†$50 for the half; $35 for the 10K; and $25 for the 5K. All runs will take place on the historic Edwards AFB Lakebed and flightline. Annual Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony

The Airman and Family Readiness Center is preparing for the annual Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony in April that celebrates all the volunteers at Edwards Air Force Base and their service between Jan. 1 and Dec., 31 2013.

We’re asking all agencies, organizations and units who use volunteers and those who have employees that volunteer somewhere on Edwards AFB to submit their volunteers’ names, e-mail, phone number and total number of hours volunteered to Maricel Rusit by Feb. 6. To submit a volunteer for the Volunteer Excellence Award, contact Rusit at (661) 277-0723 or email maricel.rusit@us.af.mil. VEA nominations and images are also due by Feb 6.

Open mic night

The First Four Airmen’s Council is holding an Open Mic Night at the Oasis
Center: Stripes Lounge 6-9 p.m., Feb. 28 for Black History Month.

This event is free of charge and is open to all military, civilians, contractors and dependents. Come out and enjoy various acts of amateur of spoken word, poetry, guitarists and vocalists!
